Required CE Hours for Renewal
Resident Producers and Solicitors
- Must earn 24 credits of State-approved education credit every two years. Of the 24 credits, a minimum of 3 credits must be in "ethics" coursework. The "other" 21 credits may be in accident & health, life, property, casualty, etc.
- If a licensee completes more than 3 credits in ethics, the additional credits beyond the 3 required ethics credits will count toward the "general" 21 credits needed.
Non-Resident
- Michigan is reciprocal with all other states. By meeting your home state CE requirements, you will automatically comply with Michigan's requirements. You are not required to submit proof of CE compliance to our office.

Special Training/Education Requirements
Long-Term Care Insurance
- MUST have an active insurance producer license for accident and health or life, complete a one-time, 8-hour LTC - Partnership training course, and complete ongoing training of not less than 4 hours for every two-year CE compliance period after completing the one-time training course.
Flood Insurance Training
- An insurance producer who chooses to satisfy the training and education requirements of the Act by successfully completing a course related to the NFIP that has been approved by the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services will receive 3 hours of continuing education credit.
Annuity Training
- Producers licensed on or after June 29, 2021, must complete a one-time, 4-hour training course before selling annuities.
- Producers licensed prior to June 29, 2021, that were previously authorized to sell annuities, must complete either the one-time, 4-hour course or a one-time, 1-hour refresher course to continue selling annuities.

Exemptions
- There are some exceptions: (1) Limited Life, (2) Turkey, Crop and Hail, (3) Travel, Accident and Baggage, (4) Title, (5) Credit Products and (6) Limited Lines Property and Casualty. These license types / lines of authority do not require completion of CE credits.

License Term
- Your CE review date is determined by the month and year of your birth. Your first CE review date must allow you at least 12 months to complete 24 CE credits after your license is first approved.

Final Exam
- Final exams are to be monitored by a disinterested third party.
- Final exams are Closed book.
- A passing grade of at least 70% required to pass the course.

Certificate of Completion
To get your certificate of completion, log in to our website using your username and password. Then, look at the menu on the left and find "Course History." Your course history will list the courses you passed or failed. If you passed a course, you'll see a "Print certificate" button on the right, allowing you to print your certificate for your records.

How are Hours Reported
We report your credits to the MI DIFS within one business day (except holidays, reporting will be done on next business day). The department recognizes the date you passed/completed the exam as the date of completion. It is not based upon the day we report the hours to them.

Course Repetition
Duplicate completions will not be counted and will appear on your record with zero (0) credit. A duplicate course is one with the same course name or one that contains the same course material as a course already completed.

Carry-over Hours
- Producers and Solicitors with a July 1, 2018 CE review date and later may accumulate CE carryover hours.
- A maximum of 12 CE credit hours may be eligible to be carried over to the next CE review period. A licensee must first be compliant for the current CE review period before carryover credit hours can be calculated.
