Special Training/Education Requirements
Long Term Care
- An individual may not sell, solicit or negotiate long-term care insurance unless:
- The individual is licensed as a life or health insurance producer;
- The individual has completed a one-time training course that is no less than 8 hours in length; and
- The individual completes ongoing training of no less than 4 hours every 24 months thereafter.
Annuity Training
- An insurance producer who engages in the sale of annuity products shall complete a one-time four (4) credit training course approved by the Department of Insurance and provided by the Department of Insurance approved education provider.

Exemptions
- For individuals whose compliance date falls less than one year from the original license issuance, the continuing education requirement will be moved to the next compliance period. After the first compliance period, the requirement date will be every 2 years.
- Limited Lines
- Resident producers holding only limited lines licenses are not required to complete CE credits to maintain their license.

Certificate of Completion
To get your certificate of completion, log in to our website using your username and password. Then, look at the menu on the left and find "Course History." Your course history will list the courses you passed or failed. If you passed a course, you'll see a "Print certificate" button on the right, allowing you to print your certificate for your records.

How are Hours Reported
We report your credits to the ME DPFR within one business day (except holidays, reporting will be done on next business day). The department recognizes the date you passed/completed the exam as the date of completion. It is not based upon the day we report the hours to them.

Course Repetition
- The same course cannot be taken within the current biennium.
- Courses can be repeated if they were taken in a different biennium.

Carry-over Hours
Any continuing education credits earned in addition of the required 24 credit hours per biennium, will not be carried over to the next biennium.
