Required CE Hours for Renewal
Single or Dual Major Lines
- 18 hours- Required course type: 3 Ethics; remainder at producer’s discretion
- Major lines are Life, Accident and Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty, and Personal.
Public Adjusters
- 18 hours - Required course type: 3 Ethics; remainder at public adjuster’s discretion
Title Only
- 4 hours - Required course type: Title
Crop Only
- 2 hours - Required course type: Crop
Bail Bond, Self-Service Storage Unit or Travel
- Must comply with CE requirements under K.S.A. 22-2809b required for authorization to act as a bail bond agent in any Kansas judicial district.
- Every compensated surety shall obtain at least 8 hours of continuing education credits during each 12-month period beginning on January 1, 2017.
- The Kansas bail agents association shall either provide or contract for a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education classes to be held at least once annually.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Long-Term Care Insurance
- Each licensed insurance agent who is an individual and who sells, solicits, or negotiates a long-term care partnership program policy shall have 4 hours of initial training in courses certified by the commissioner of insurance as long-term care partnership program training.
- After obtaining the initial training, each licensed insurance agent shall obtain at least 1 hour of training in any course certified by the commissioner of insurance as long-term care partnership program training.

Flood Insurance Training
- Resident insurance producers licensed in Property and Casualty or Personal Lines
- Must complete a one-time course related to NFIP which will provide at least three (3) hours of continuing education credit. These three (3) hours are not required in addition to the biennial CE hour requirements. The failure to comply with this training requirement may jeopardize the insurance producer’s authority to write flood insurance through the NFIP.

Annuity Training
- Any producer who engages in the sale of annuities to complete a 4 hour annuity suitability training course. Producers are also required to complete on an ongoing basis company-sponsored product-specific training sponsored by the insurance company offering the product.

Exemptions
- Limited Line License for Pre-Need Only
- Producers do not have a CE requirement. However, on or up to 90 days prior to their biennial renewal date, they must file a Pre-Need Only Insurance Producer Biennial Affirmation affirming they have transacted only pre-need insurance business during the renewal period. The insurance company(ies) they are appointed with must also provide a Company Certification of Agent’s Sale of Pre-Need Insurance Only certifying the producer transacted no other insurance business during the renewal period.
- Bail Bond Only, Self-service storage unit Only, Travel Insurance Only
- Each licensed insurance agent who is an individual and holds only a bail bond, self-service storage unit or travel insurance qualification is exempt from the requirement.
- Non-Resident
- Any person who is not a resident of this state who sells, solicits or negotiates a contract of insurance for commercial property and casualty risks.

License Term
- Resident producers are required to renew their license on or before their biennial due date.
- The biennial due date is the last day of the producer’s birth month in each odd year for producers born in an odd-numbered year or each even year for producers born in an even-numbered year. For newly licensed producers, such date shall not be earlier than two years from the date of the producer’s initial licensure.

Certificate of Completion
To get your certificate of completion, log in to our website using your username and password. Then, look at the menu on the left and find "Course History." Your course history will list the courses you passed or failed. If you passed a course, you'll see a "Print certificate" button on the right, allowing you to print your certificate for your records.

How are Hours Reported
We report your credits through SBS, a state-approved third party vendor, within one business day (except holidays, reporting will be done on next business day). The department receives the credits from SBS and recognizes the date you passed/completed the exam as the date of completion. It is not based upon the day we report the hours to them.

Course Repetition
Neither a student nor an instructor shall earn full credit for attending or instructing any subsequent offering of the same course in the current biennial license period after attending or teaching the course.
