Major Lines of Authority
- Must complete a minimum of 36 credits for each CE term in courses approved by the division. 3 of these credits must be in the subject of ethics.
Crop Only
- Has completed all training and continuing education requirements imposed by the federal Risk Management Association
- Has completed 18 credits of continuing education, 3 of which must be in the area of ethics.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Public Adjusters
- Shall satisfactorily complete a minimum of 24 credits of continuing education, including 2 credits of ethics, reported on a biennial basis in conjunction with the license renewal cycle.

Navigators
- Must complete a minimum of 36 continuing education credits for each continuing education term in courses approved by the commissioner on subjects relevant to navigators, including health insurance, tax credits, tax penalties, Medicaid, the healthy and well kids in Iowa program, healthcare-related public assistance programs, or other ACA-related topics.

Viatical Settlement Brokers
- Shall complete, on a triennial basis, running concurrent with the license term, 20 credits of training related to viatical settlements and viatical settlement transactions, as required by the commissioner.

Annuity Product Training
- An insurance producer who engages in the sale of annuity products shall complete a one-time 4-credit training course approved by the Iowa insurance division and provided by an education provider approved by the insurance division.

Index Product Training
- A producer who wishes to sell indexed products in Iowa shall complete at least one 4-credit indexed products training course, as described in this division, prior to providing any advice or making any sales presentation concerning an indexed product.

Long-Term Care Training
- A producer who wishes to sell a long-term care insurance policy on behalf of that insurer has obtained certain required training before permitting the producer to sell, solicit or negotiate the insurer’s long-term care insurance products.
- The required training is of two types:
- a one-time training course of at least 8 CE credits in subjects related to long-term care insurance, Iowa Medicaid and partnership prior to selling any long-term care insurance;
- thereafter, for producers wishing to continue to sell long-term care insurance, ongoing training of 4 CE credits in subjects related to long-term care insurance, Iowa Medicaid and partnership for each CE term.

Exemptions
- A producer who is licensed for only credit or surety.
- A producer who is an attorney licensed to sell insurance. Licensed attorneys who are also producers need to submit to the Division proof of continuing legal education for the appropriate calendar years during the CE term.
- A nonresident producer who lives in a state where CE is required.

License Term
- The initial term of a producer license is three years and ends after the last day of the applicant’s birth month of the year the license was issued,unless revoked or suspended.

Final Exam
- Final exams are to be monitored by a disinterested third party.
- Final exams are Closed book.
- A passing grade of at least 70% required to pass the course.

Certificate of Completion
To get your certificate of completion, log in to our website using your username and password. Then, look at the menu on the left and find "Course History." Your course history will list the courses you passed or failed. If you passed a course, you'll see a "Print certificate" button on the right, allowing you to print your certificate for your records.

How are Hours Reported
We report your credits through SBS, a state-approved third party vendor, within one business day (except holidays, reporting will be done on next business day). The department receives the credits from SBS and recognizes the date you passed/completed the exam as the date of completion. It is not based upon the day we report the hours to them.

Course Repetition
- A producer cannot receive CE credit for the same course twice in one CE term.
- A producer cannot receive CE credit both for the classroom portion and for the examination portion of a national designation program.

Carry-over Hours
A producer cannot carry over CE credits earned in excess of the producer’s CE term requirements from one CE term to the next.
